Performing a Hard Reset on an O2 XDA Zinc
A full reset is sometimes referred to as a hard reset. Perform a full reset when you want to clear all settings, programs and data from RAM.
Caution if you perform a full reset, your HTC pocket PC returns to its default settings and looses all information that is not recorded in ROM.
To perform a hard reset:
- Press the navigation key (13) UP and press the soft reset at the same time.
- Warning: All personal data stored in the device will be destroyed. It is recommended that do a backup before doing Hard Reset

Samsung Galaxy S SGH-T959 Hard Reset
Have you tried this? This works for me..
For recovery mode this works for me,
Remove battery
Install battery
Press and hold vol+/vol-
Press and hold power button
Once you see the Vibrant Screen do not release any of the buttons (vol+/vol- and power buttons) it will go black then back to Vibrant screen, then you release the power button only but keep pressing the vol-/vol+ buttons… this should get you into recovery mode..
For Download mode this helps me,
Remove Battery
Plug in USB cable to phone and computer
Put Battery In.. wait a couple of seconde until it shows the battery being charge..
Press and hold the vol+/vol- and the power button..
This will power up you phone.. once you see the Vibrant screen and it turn black, release the power button only.. this should get you into DL mode (it works for me). good luck.

Samsung I9000 Galaxy S Hard Reset
Note: Please back up all of your personal data before you proceed. All data will be deleted on your Samsung I9000 Galaxy S by doing this procedure. However, this process will NOT delete data stored on the microSD memory card.
To Hard Reset Samsung I9000 Galaxy S
1. Turn the power off. If your Samsung Galaxy S is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
2. Hold the Volume Down button
3. Press and release the Power button
4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
6. Press and release the Power button
7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If YES is selected, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from your Samsung I9000 Galaxy S. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.
NEW:
If this does not work on more recent Galaxy. Try this...
Volume UP + Home + Power
and you should get to the reset option menu.

Tested I900 Hard Reset Codes
1. REMOVE BATTERY & PUT IT BACK
2. HOLD VOLUME UP BUTTON & MIDDLE BUTTON (HOME BUTTON)
3. WHILE HOLDING THIS TWO BUTTON PRESS POWER BUTTON AND RELEASE
4.IT WILL POP UP WITH HARD RESET MENU
5. SCROLL DOWN TO FACTORY RESET WITH VOLUME DOWN BUTTON THEN PRESS CENTER BUTTON OR HOME BUTTON
6. PRESS VOLUME DOWN BUTTON TO SELECT YES FACTORY SETTINGS THEN PRESS CENTER BUTTON
7. SELECT REBOOT DEVICE AND PRESS CENTER BUTTON
